KUCHING: A number of villagers in Kampung Sungai Midin caused a ruckus during a dialogue with Petra Jaya MP Fadillah Yusof on the delay in supplying electricity to their village.
They said it was unfair that a number of people in their community who did not pay the RM65 fee would also be provided with electricity. “Why should we continue to pay when people who do not pay also get to enjoy electricity at our expense? This example will be followed by other villagers if no action is taken to tackle this problem,” grumbled one of the villagers during the dialogue. When asked to comment on the incident, Fadillah said the problem could only be solved by concerted effort from the government and the villagers. He added that the only way problems could be solved was through mutual understanding, cooperation and constructive discussion. “Therefore, I hope that they agree to the government’s development plan. “We will approach them individually and provide them with the information on the pros of development through the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) programme,” said Fadillah who is also Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations. He said development would not only bring infrastructures to the villagers, but also help develop them to be on par with the rest of the state.
